Outdoor Weddings Worth Remembering Forever In The Northeast, Ohio Areas

We, the members of “Like The Record,” provide live musical entertainment for many outdoor weddings and events in Cleveland-Akron-Canton as well as all surrounding Northeast Ohio areas. We enjoy playing at them all!  It is so much fun seeing the bride, groom, and all their family and friends letting loose on the dance floor as the music we play works its magic.  It’s also a special honor knowing we’re an integral part of one of the most special days in the newlywed couple’s entire life!

There are many reasons why some people prefer outdoor weddings to indoor weddings. Some may enjoy the connection to nature it provides or they may find that it’s easier to accommodate more people at an outside venue. Some couples like to have their wedding at the spot where they met, the place where the groom proposed, or another outdoor area that has some sentimental significance to them.

In some cases, the couple may decide to have both their wedding ceremony and wedding reception outside. In other cases, they may decide to have only the wedding reception outside. Either way, there are some special considerations and outdoor weddings ideas that we wanted to pass on to you.

Outdoor Weddings Cleveland OhioCheck the Weather Before Planning an Outdoor Wedding

First and foremost It is good idea to understand general weather trends when planning an outdoor wedding in the Northeast, Ohio regions. December through March are almost always bitterly cold. This of course would make it tough to have a pleasant outdoor wedding during these months. During the summer, Northeast, Ohio doesn’t get as hot as many of the other areas in the country, with the highs usually only reaching the low to mid 80s during July, the hottest month of the year. Here is a nice graph from weather.com that shows the average high temperatures and low temperatures by month, as well as the record highs and record lows.

However, if you are thinking about having an outdoor wedding reception in Northeast Ohio, you need to be aware that the temperature does not tell the whole story! It’s the humidity that you need to watch out for! It can get miserably humid during the summer, making it feel much hotter than it really is. Plus, the high humidity can make people sweat and get really sticky and uncomfortable — not the best thing for the guests all decked out in their best attire, not to mention the effect it can have on the bride and groom. It can also dampen everyone’s enthusiasm for dancing to Like The Record’s upbeat nostalgic music!

You are probably wondering about average rainfall by month in the Northeast, Ohio regions. If you scroll up the weather.com page linked above, you will find that average precipitation rates do not vary much from month to month in northeast Ohio. For this reason, no matter which month you choose to have an outdoor wedding in, you should always spend extra money to put up tents where your guests can retreat if and when there is a rain shower. Keep in mind too that some band members don’t mind getting a little wet but our musical instruments might! For this reason, it is always best to provide cover for the wedding band if your wedding reception is being held outside.

Outdoor Weddings In Cleveland OhioProbably the best seasons in the greater Cleveland areas for outdoor weddings are late spring (May) or early fall (September). First of all, the
average temperatures are quite nice during these months. Second, the full effect of the summer humidity hasn’t really arrived in May and the humidity dramatically drops off in September. This can make for beautiful weather days that are perfect for an outdoor wedding!

Still, we know that June weddings are the most popular and many people love to invite their family and friends to a great outdoor summer celebration. So, if you do decide to have a summer wedding in northeast Ohio, be prepared to keep your guests extra hydrated. Remember too that alcoholic and caffeinated drinks can actually contribute to dehydration so you’ll want to also serve plenty of popular non-alcoholic decaffeinated drinks such as ice cold lemonade and raspberry sparkling water.

Wind can also be a major factor for outdoor weddings in Northeast Ohio, especially the swirling type wind that we often see. For this reason, you need to take special wind precautions if you have an outdoor wedding. For example, you may want to add weights to the bride’s veil so it doesn’t flap uncontrollably in the wind. Keep the wind in mind too when selecting the hairstyles and dresses for the bride and bridesmaids. If you have candles on the tables, be sure to surround them with hurricane lanterns to keep the wind from blowing the flames out!

Danny Todd – Founding Member of “Like the Record” I was an army brat growing up. When I was about 13, my family and I were stationed in Germany. That’s where I first met a high school senior who lived downstairs. His name was John Door – a professional jazz drummer who would practice every day. And I wanted to play just like him … I wanted it badly! We soon became friends and he began teaching me with theory reading percussion music (which I hated practicing, but knew I had to in order to progress). I soon started on snare drum in the school marching band then moved on to stage band and orchestra. My high school band mates and I formed numerous groups and played at our high school dances every Friday night. Those were the days!
